Nurturing creativity and confidence through play-based learning, arts immersion, and gentle guidance

At State of Play, we believe in the power of creative, experiential learning.

State of Play Preschool is equal parts creative studio, playspace, haven, and learning ecosystem, but more than the sum of our parts. We're redefining holistic early childhood development to help empower joyful, collaborative learning and self-expression.

State of Play offers preschool 3 or 4 days a week with half day programs from 9am-1pm or full day programs from 9am-3pm. Please get in touch with us for more information, to submit an application, or to inquire about our waitlist.

Our Approach

A Journey of Discovery

Creativity needs to be nurtured! State of Play's preschool program is an art immersion and play-based experience in a relationship-centered environment. We value creative expression and social and emotional development as much as academics. Drawing from years of expertise and inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, our innovative approach to teaching and caring for children is rooted in these key values.

Empowered learning

We emphasize the role of the child as a capable protagonist in their own learning process, with unique, self-directed potential.

Thoughtful setting

We provide a modern, organized, and resource-rich environment as a "third teacher," intentionally designed to balance curiosity and creativity with a sense of calm focus.

Humble curiosity

We shift the traditional role of the teacher from someone who instructs, to someone who invites; an engaged co-learner and inspiring guide.

Community connection

We believe that children flourish when deep and meaningful human connections permeate their lives, and we seek to create a supportive network for everyone involved in their growth and development.

Mindful practice

We offer children supportive activities and invitations that encourage them to engage both mind and body in a holistic way while strengthening connection and awareness.

Our commitment to the social and emotional development of young children includes a conscious consideration for the individual as well as the greater community.

State of Play students are provided opportunities to become compassionate, socially-minded thinkers by continuously connecting themselves to the world around them through collaborative problem-solving and meaningful discussion. We also emphasize and support self-awareness, emotional resilience, and authentic expression through mindfulness and somatic (or body-based) practices, such as breathing, movement, and stillness.

Our goals are to develop innovative thinkers and embodied souls by encouraging curiosity and acknowledging the innate need to create.
