Summer Art Camp - Wood

What a week of discovery and exploration of Wood! Your children were busy with lots of amazing projects - here are just a few of the things that we covered this week at camp:

In our daily Art Meetings, your children learned about artists like Ellie RichardsBrian Nash GillCheryl Prisco, and many more!

The children worked on individual projects like woodblock printmaking, bird house building, fairy house creation and wooden assemblages.

For woodblock printmaking, children used pieces of wood and flooring to create a print of the wood grain. They experimented with ink pads and printmaking ink with brayers - all with a unique result. For bird house and fairy house building, children worked all week to first build their structures and then later decorate them. There will definitely be some happy creatures enjoying these structures! For the inspiration behind the wooden assemblages project, children got to see the work of Cheryl Prisco in person at our Art Meeting! They then got to create their own interpretation of Cheryl's work by painting and gluing small pieces of wood into wooden frames.

The big group project of the week was a collaborative wood sculpture. First, children built the sculpture by stacking, placing and gluing pieces of wood to create their desired structures. The children were so intentional about the placement of each small piece of wood. The next step was painting the whole sculpture white! The children decided to name this piece "State of Play's Tower of Awesome!"

Thanks for a great week with your children!
