Transcending Traditional Summer Camp
State of Play Summer Camp for 3 - 9 year olds! 4 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), offering half or full day options (9am-1pm or 9am-3pm). Each week your child will explore a different art material, engaging in offerings and invitations connected to an artistic concept or theme. Through group activities and projects within our art studio and play space, children will be learning about different artists and how the materials connect to our everyday world. Daily outdoor lunch (weather permitting) and art making will be held in State of Play's green space in the Cannery.
June 17 - 20 : Printmaking
Children will be introduced to the endless possibilities of printmaking! We will cover techniques such as cyanotypes, shaving cream prints, and jelly prints and learn about elements in printmaking like layering, color mixing and design.
June 24 - 27 : Mixed Media with Found Objects
Children will explore and play with combining different artistic mediums and processes, as well as incorporating found objects to create works of art. We will learn about contemporary and local artists that use these techniques of combining types of art in their work.
July 1 - 3 : Natural Materials
Unleash your creativity with nature's palette at our Nature Camp! Dive into the fascinating world of natural paints, weave your magic on natural looms, create collages and construct mini homes that will create a village. From Monday to Wednesday, July 1st - 3rd (no camp Thursday, July 4th) from 9am - 1pm (extended care available until 3pm). Ages 3-7.
July 8 - 11 : Paint
Children will immerse themselves into the world of paint by learning about color, technique, texture, and artists from both the past and present. We will work on projects big and small to push the boundaries of this diverse medium.
July 15 - 18 : Weaving and Fiber Arts
Children will learn the basics of weaving and explore this process using different materials and types of looms. We will also play around with creating works of art with fabric, yarn and other textiles.
July 22 - 25 : Paper Mache
Children will learn the basics of the paper mache process. We will then apply those techniques to create several projects on a small and large scale.
July 29 - August 1 : Wood
Children will learn about the diversity of wood as a medium and how it can be dramatically transformed. We will learn about contemporary wood artists and create both individual and collaborative works of art.
August 5 - 8 : Watercolor
Children will dive into the whimsical world of watercolor! We will explore ways to manipulate watercolor paints as well as experiment with painting on different surfaces and materials.
August 12 - 15 : Clay
Children will learn about the diversity of clay as a medium and how there are endless ways to manipulate and transform it. We will sculpt with clay, paint with clay, build with clay, and so much more!
August 19 - 22 : Self Portraits
Children will learn about and explore the concept of the self portrait, posing questions like - How will I represent myself in a piece of art? What medium(s) would I like to use? Will it be abstract or realistic? We will also learn about artists throughout history that have had some of the most impactful self portraits.

Our classes are great for 3-9 year olds. That's the great part about art! Children are able to approach the same material and medium in different ways no matter what their age. Our skilled educators adapt each project and invitation to the child approaching it.
